This policy explains what information Openbnet (“we”, “us”) collects when you use the Spaces app and related services (“Spaces”), why we collect it, and the choices you have. Questions? Email [email protected].
1. Information you give us
| Information | Why we use it |
|---|---|
| Account details: name, @username, profile photo, “about” text, phone number and/or email address, and the Apple, Google or Facebook account you sign in with | Create and secure your account, let friends find you, and sign you in |
| Date of birth | Check the minimum age (13) and hide content that is not suitable for your age group. Your birth date is private and never shown to other people |
| Country, region and interests you choose | Open Spaces region by region, and suggest news, football results and people relevant to you |
| Messages, voice messages, photos, videos, stickers, posts, Shorts, status updates, comments, reactions and files you upload to Openbnet Cloud | Deliver and store what you share with the people you choose |
| Reports you send us and messages to support | Investigate problems and keep Spaces safe |
2. Information collected when you use Spaces
- Precise location (optional). Only if you allow it: to fill in your region during setup, or while you have nearby discovery switched on and the screen open. Region-only setup is always available.
- Camera, microphone and speech recognition (optional). Used only when you take photos, record Shorts or voice messages, make calls, scan QR codes, or switch on captions. Captions and voice-message text are produced on your phone.
- Calls. Voice, video and screen sharing are relayed through our call servers so they can reach the other people in the call. We do not record calls.
- Activity in the app. For example which posts and Shorts you view or react to, and who viewed your status. We use this to show your feed and to show you who viewed your status.
- Device and technical information. Push notification tokens, app version, device model, language and connection status, used to deliver notifications and keep the service working.
We do not use your information to track you across other companies’ apps or websites, we do not sell it, and Spaces does not show third-party advertising. Spaces does not upload your phone’s address book.
3. Content checks
To protect users, photos and videos uploaded to public or shared areas are checked by an automated classifier operated by Openbnet before publication. Content may be blocked, limited to older age groups or held for review. Reports you make are reviewed by our team.
4. Who we share information with
- People you choose. What you post or send is visible to the people and audiences you pick.
- Service providers that run parts of Spaces for us, under contracts that limit their use of your data: Google Firebase (sign-in and push notifications), Apple, Google and Meta (only when you choose to sign in with them), and the hosting providers of our servers.
- Legal reasons. When required by law, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
Your information may be processed on servers outside your country. We protect it in transit with encryption (HTTPS/TLS) and restrict access to it.
5. How long we keep it
- Status updates expire after 24 hours and are removed from our servers shortly after.
- Other content stays until you delete it or delete your account.
- When you delete your account (You → Delete account), we delete your profile, sign-in identities, personal content and files, usually within minutes. Shared groups remain for their other members. Copies in our backups are removed as those backups expire.
6. Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, change who can see your posts and status, and turn off location, camera, microphone or notifications at any time.
- Block people and control discovery in You → Privacy and safety.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. You may also have rights under data protection laws where you live, including Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022.
7. Children
Spaces is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it. Users aged 13 to 17 only see content rated for their age group.
8. Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and show the new date at the top. For significant changes we will also tell you in the app.
